Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
Who this is for
If you’re a parent of a young child whose big behaviors feel hard to manage at home, PCIT may be a fit. Families often seek PCIT when everyday moments—transitions, limits, or strong emotions—keep turning into power struggles, and you’d like clearer, calmer ways to respond together.
This page is for parents and caregivers searching for PCIT or parent-child therapy in McKinney and nearby Collin County. A parent or guardian’s presence is required throughout treatment.
What PCIT is
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidence-based therapy designed to strengthen the bond between parents and young children while addressing behavioral challenges.
At QuantumPlayt, PCIT is delivered by mental health professionals formally trained in PCIT. The focus is coaching you—in real time—so the skills you practice in session can carry into daily life at home.
Treatment unfolds in two phases:
Phase 1 builds calm and security in the parent-child relationship. Parents learn skills that foster warmth, support the child’s confidence, and help the child feel safe and valued.
Phase 2 equips parents with tools for challenging behaviors. Parents learn techniques to set clear limits, encourage cooperation, reinforce household rules, and support appropriate behavior in public settings.
What a session looks like
You and your child work together in a welcoming playroom. A trained therapist observes through a live video feed or an in-room setup. You wear a discreet earbud so the therapist can coach you in the moment with practical, supportive guidance.
Sessions are weekly and typically 50 minutes. PCIT usually lasts about 14–16 weeks. Some families finish in about 12 sessions; others continue for 20 or more, depending on treatment goals.
